You should not wait to get dental insurance.
One of the biggest mistakes I often see people do, is that they do not get dental insurance until major dental work is needed.  Often stating that they did not get dental insurance because all they ever have done is the twice a year check ups and cleanings.
In theory that may sound good. Until the day you need more then just a cleaning and X-rays. That is when you are left chasing down insurance. If you also want to stay with your current dentist, you may find out the plans you need inorder to keep your current dentist are the same plans that have long term waiting periods for anything more then your basic cleanings.
Do your homework shop out dental insurance and think about any furture needs you have. You be better off getting insurance now then waiting until you have a toothache.

That is so true. I hate to say this but I was one of the people that waited until I had a really bad toothache. When I found out that without dental insurance it was going to cost me $1500.00 to fix I got the shock of my life.
Then trying to find dental insurance that started right away with no waiting periods for a root canal and a crown was not possible for me. Every dental insurance I could find at the time had 12 -18 months waiting period.
I had to get a dental discount plan that saved me a little over $400.00 which was good but I could have gotten better if I had dental insurance in place before hand.
Having gone though that I did get dental insurance to and waited out the waiting periods. It be two years since then but I know if something like that happens again I am not going to get stuck with a $1100.00 bill.
